What is Longmont Community Gardens?

Longmont Community Gardens is a 509(a)(2) non-profit that was established during the fall of 2020 to manage an organic community garden at 100 11th Avenue in partnership with the City of Longmont. Originally built in 2010, the 11th Avenue Garden was the first community garden in Longmont and was initially managed by Growing Gardens of Boulder.

EXCITING NEWS! Longmont Community Gardens was awarded a USDA grant for garden expansion. These funds allowed us to develop a total of 22 additional raised beds, and 33 additional half plots at two garden sites. Some plots are available as an extension of the current 11th Avenue Garden, and plots will also be available at a new garden site, 15th Avenue Garden, located on property of the Longmont Christian School, 1440 Collyer Street, east of the school on 15th Avenue.

Longmont Community Gardens continues to serve the Longmont community by providing resources to foster an environment where knowledge can be shared while growing fresh, healthy produce.

Our Mission

The mission of the Longmont Community Gardens is to provide organic garden areas, tools, water, and a place to share gardening knowledge. This will be a supportive environment for its members and the local community where organic produce will be grown in a way that conserves water usage, respects the land and all creatures, including enhancement of bee populations and other pollinators. Natural integrated pest and weed management practices are encouraged. All products grown by members will be grown for the member’s use or provided to local food banks.

Who are we?

Longmont Community Gardens consists of several dozen community members, some of whom also volunteer their time to serve on the nonprofit’s board of directors. Each board member’s term runs for one year, is unpaid, and purely voluntary. We welcome to our garden members of the local community, including those who may be part of the underserved populations with limited access to fresh, organic produce.

"He who cultivates a garden and brings to perfection flowers and fruits, cultivates and advances at the same time his own nature." - Ezra Weston II, shipbuilder, 1836
